How do I grant SMS permission?
AutoForwardText requires SMS permissions to receive, process, and send messages properly.
Android devices generally require:
• SMS permission (receive and read incoming messages)
• Outbound SMS / Send SMS permission (required for replies and SMS gateway functionality)
To enable standard SMS permissions:
-
Open Android Settings
-
Open Apps
-
Select AutoForwardText
-
Tap Permissions
Enable:
• SMS
• Phone (if requested)
• Contacts (optional)
• Call Logs (optional)
Enable Outbound SMS on Android 13+
Due to Android security restrictions, newer Android versions often require additional steps before third-party apps can send SMS automatically.
This permission is required for:
• SMS auto replies
• Dashboard message replies
• Android SMS gateway functionality
• Automated workflows
• Sending SMS from your dashboard
Try the following steps in order:
Step 1: Request the permission directly
When enabling SMS Gateway permissions from:
• Android onboarding screens
• SMS Gateway settings
• Dashboard prompts
Tap:
Request Now
Android may grant the permission immediately.
Step 2: Enable restricted settings manually
If the permission remains disabled:
-
Long-press the AutoForwardText app icon
-
Tap App Info
-
Tap the ⋮ (three-dot menu) in the upper-right corner
-
Select Allow Restricted Settings (if available)
-
Return to:
Permissions → SMS
-
Enable:
Send SMS
Important note for Android 15 devices
On some Android 15 devices, the Allow Restricted Settings option may only appear after attempting the permission request first.
If you do not see the option:
• Return to AutoForwardText
• Tap Request Now
• Reopen App Info and check again
You only need to complete this setup once.
After enabling permissions, send a test message from your dashboard to confirm outgoing SMS functionality is working correctly.
